Trump’s recent remarks on Gaza have sparked renewed unity among Muslim-majority nations, intensifying their long-standing opposition to the displacement of Palestinians.
The White House’s attempts to dampen the contentious remarks have met little success, as Trump has doubled down in posts on various social media platforms. Key regional states such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan have unequivocally rejected any attempts to displace Palestinians from their homeland. The Saudi Foreign Ministry emphasized the kingdom’s firm stance against any infringement on Palestinian rights, declaring such a position as “non-negotiable and not subject to compromises.”
Other Muslim nations, including Pakistan and Turkiye, have likewise slammed the proposal, stressing no one can force Palestinians out of their homeland. Both have emphasized that the only acceptable outcome is a two-state solution as per the aspirations of the Palestinian people. Historically, this has also been Washington’s position.
The longstanding U.S. approach envisions Israel and a sovereign Palestinian state coexisting peacefully and securely. Trump’s proposal starkly deviates from this, hinting at unilateral action without Palestinian consent. Implementing his idea would constitute a severe violation of international law, as already indicated by the United Nations. Forcibly relocating an entire population undermines the principles enshrined in the U.N. Charter and various human rights treaties. It rejects the very notion of the right to self-determination, a principled position of the global order.
For the U.S., proceeding with Trump’s plan also erodes its credibility as a champion of human rights. Such actions risk diminishing America’s ability to advocate for human rights in other contexts, highlighting its selective and self-serving approach to fundamental freedoms.
The world cannot allow such a situation to evolve. It is time for global unity at both the stage of the U.N. and elsewhere in opposition to any actions that threaten the established international order. Global stability is impossible without adherence to international law and respect for human rights. The only viable, and lasting, solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one that honors the rights and aspirations of all parties involved.
Any alternative fuels lawlessness and instability the world cannot afford.
