The United States on Thursday thanked Pakistan for supporting President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan and for joining the Board of Peace.
Posting on X after a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he had appreciated “Pakistan’s ongoing support of [President Trump’s] Peace Plan for Gaza and for joining the Board of Peace.”
According to Rubio, the trio discussed “the importance of our strategic relationship on critical minerals development and counterterrorism” during their meeting.
Both Pakistani leaders are currently in Washington on an official visit to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace.
Earlier, addressing the moot, P.M. Sharif described his participation as an honor and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to lasting peace in Gaza. He said the pursuit of sustainable peace in Gaza remained a shared mission, adding the day marked a “golden chapter in history” for peace efforts in the Middle East.
He also hoped the initiative would succeed in achieving long-term stability in the war-hit region.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, also accompanying the prime minister, said Pakistan received an extraordinary reception at the Board of Peace meeting in Washington. In a video statement, he said the U.S. president had appreciated Pakistan’s role in world peace, increasing Pakistan’s global prestige.
He also said that Pakistan’s successful foreign policy was placing it as an important and effective player on the global stage.
