Tribunal Dismisses Yasmin Rashid’s Petition against Nawaz Sharif’s NA-130 Win

An election tribunal on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid challenging Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) President Nawaz Sharif’s victory from Lahore’s NA-130 constituency in the 2024 general elections.

The incarcerated PTI leader—convicted in various cases related to the May 9, 2023 riots—had filed a petition in April against Sharif’s win, contending the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had issued the notification of his victory in violation of law.

In her petition, filed through her lawyers, Dr. Rashid had alleged that the results were altered to favor the PMLN leader, adding she was the legitimate victor in the polls.

After hearing arguments from both sides, election tribunal judge Justice Rana Zahid Mahmood (ret.) disposed of the petition, declaring Sharif’s victory from NA-130 valid.

According to the official results issued by the ECP, Sharif secured 171,024 votes in NA-130 against Dr. Rashid’s 115,043 votes.

The ruling comes as a blow to the PTI, which has maintained that its mandate was “stolen” in the 2024 general elections by changing results in Form 47s, which tabulate votes from all polling stations of a constituency. According to the PTI, it has Form 45s, tabulating the number of votes cast in a polling station, “proving” its victory.
