Another Blockade
After the failure of peace talks with Iran in Islamabad, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced Washington will blockade all ships entering and exiting Iranian ports, raising fears of fuel supply disruptions. Iran has responded by warning that Americans will soon become “nostalgic” for cheaper fuel, hinting at a significant ramp up of petroleum prices.
No Trust
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, who was part of the delegation negotiating with the U.S. during talks in Islamabad, has said Washington failed to secure Tehran’s trust during the negotiations. However, he has hinted at further rounds of negotiation in future, suggesting the door to a peaceful settlement to the conflict has not been closed permanently.
Rationing Gas
Amidst an ongoing shortage of imported LNG due to the Iran war, the Government of Pakistan is considering diverting supplies from the CNG sector, residential consumers or fertilizer plants to offset an anticipated in hike in electricity tariffs. If realized, the move could leave more than 7 million citizens without access to gas to power household stoves.
Reviving the Flag Carrier
The new owners of Pakistan International Airlines are working to expand and restore its fleet, with plans to scale up to 60 aircraft as part of its ongoing revival strategy, according to Arif Habib Consortium Chairman Arif Habib. The flag carrier currently owns 30 aircraft, of which 18 are in operation and 5-6 are undergoing repairs and maintenance.
Climate Resilient Punjab
The Punjab government has directed horticulture agencies of the province’s major cities to establish dedicated biodiversity corridors to protect the climate and natural habitats. A biodiversity corridor refers to a strip of plants, hedgerows or unmown land that connects isolated patches of natural habitat, allowing fauna to move freely through gardens and parks.
Limiting Compromise
The Peshawar High Court has rejected the bail plea of a man charged with murdering his daughter and another individual, ruling that any compromise by legal heirs of the deceased is “inconsequential” if the offense attracts principle of mischief on earth. Citing Section 3ll PPC, the court has ruled that it can punish an offender with death or life imprisonment despite waiver or the right of qisas.
Mass Dacoity
Police in Karachi have rejected a viral video that triggered mass outrage as it appeared to show around 15 armed suspects holding commuters hostage and robbing them en masse on the bridge between the Korangi and Shah Faisal areas. In a statement, police have claimed they foiled the attempt, adding the suspects had fled without looting anyone after police conducted aerial firing.
Curbing Dissent
Police in London have arrested 523 people at a protest opposing the U.K.’s ban on the Palestine Action group, claiming the people were expressing support for a “proscribed” organization. London’s High Court in February ruled the ban on the group unlawful, with the government vowing to appeal the ruling. Lawmakers banned Palestine Action in July 2025 under anti-terrorism legislation.
Austerity for Thee
Even as the government continues to claim austerity amidst fuel supply disruptions caused by the Iran war, including early market closures and a reduced official workweek, the Punjab Higher Education Commission has moved to purchase vehicles worth around Rs. 70 million. The move has raised eyebrows, especially amidst standing orders to curb inessential spending.

The development marks a setback for Orban’s allies in Russia and the United States, as well as his self-proclaimed model of “illiberal” democracy.
