Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has blamed attacks on Pakistan’s High Commission in London over the weekend on individuals “backed by Indian state and agencies.”
On Sunday morning, the Pakistani High Commission in London was vandalized, with its windows broken and eggs lobbed at its walls. The attack followed protests by hundreds of Indian demonstrators outside the building. Met Police confirmed that officers had responded to reports of a man smashing the windows, adding two individuals had been arrested for alleged involvement in violence. In a counter-protest, Pakistani supporters also staged demonstrations outside the High Commission.
Following the attacks, Met Police strengthened security around the building.
Referring to the attacks, Tarar told media on Sunday that they “proved” India’s extremist ideology and hostile actions. Highlighting Pakistan’s position as a frontline state in the war against terror, he stressed that the country had suffered the most from terrorism, with 90,000 people killed. He said the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and civilians had made huge sacrifices for both national and global peace, noting the economy has suffered losses in the “hundreds of billions of dollars” due to terrorism.
“We are the wall between the terrorists and the world, and Pakistan needs to be strengthened and supported in its war against terrorism,” he said. “We will continue to protect our citizens and the citizens of the world, and promote global peace by countering these terrorists which are trying to impose their own ideology in certain areas by spilling blood of civilians and personnel of armed forces,” he added.
