A boat carrying tourists capsized at Saifullah Lake on the Swat River on Wednesday, leaving seven people dead, according to rescue officials.
The officials said two of the victims were successfully rescued, while seven were recovered from the lake following the accident and shifted by ambulance to Kalam Hospital. They said emergency response teams and ambulances were dispatched to the site immediately after the control room received reports of the incident.
The latest incident comes amid growing concerns over drowning accidents in the region, especially ahead of the monsoon season.
Swat is a popular tourist attraction during the summer season, but rising waters and strong currents following rains often result in sudden changes to water levels, posing risks to travelers who have limited awareness of local hazards.
Last year, at least 17 tourists were swept away, prompting authorities to urge visitors to avoid unsafe sections of rivers and lakes and to follow safety guidelines and advisories.
