Punjab Government Eyes Lahore as Pakistan’s Film Capital

The provincial government on Sunday announced the establishment of the Punjab Film City, spanning 50 acres in Lahore, to empower local talent and position Pakistan as a global creative hub.

Announcing the initiative in a posting on X, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said it was the first of its king project in Punjab, adding it was conceived nearly two years ago and developed in consultation with filmmakers, producers, and actors. Once established, she said, it would enable a complete sovereign and end-to-end pipeline for content creation in Pakistan.

According to the chief minister, the project would include world-class studios and sound stages, advanced visual effects and post-production laboratories, diverse backlots featuring a central lake, and a purpose-built convention hall for hosting international award shows.

The facility, she said, would also feature integrated media trade hubs and a film and music school, along with dedicated safety and emergency response infrastructure and a vibrant entertainment district designed to support a growing creative industry. “This initiative will empower local talent, create thousands of jobs, and position Pakistan as a global hub for creative excellence,” she said.

C.M. Maryam described the Film City as a gift for youth, emphasizing that it would serve as a space “where their dreams can take flight and the true, vibrant face of Pakistan is showcased to the world.” She said the initiative was part of a broader vision to transform the province into a leading global destination for technology, innovation, heritage and culture.
