Punjab Government Announces 3 Months’ Summer Vacation

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on Monday announced a three-month-long summer vacation for schools across the province.

In a statement, he said the summer break would begin on May 22 and end on Aug. 23, with schools reopening from Aug. 24.

The decision follows rising temperatures, with the Met Office warning of severe heatwave-like conditions in the coming months. Last month, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority had issued an advisory for schools, urging them to alter working hours or declare early summer holidays amidst the excessive heat.

It had further advised suspending all outdoor sports and activities; ensuring uninterrupted availability of clean, cold drinking water; maintaining functional ventilation, fans, and cooling systems; and directing students to wear loose, light-colored clothing.
