Two specialists from Shifa International Hospital were part of a medical team that examined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan at PIMS, the hospital administration said on Saturday, adding it would not disclose the confidential contents of his medical report.
In a statement, Islamabad’s Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) said Khan was brought to the hospital during the night between Aug. 20 and 21 for a medical examination and treatment. “As part of the examination process, two specialists from Shifa International Hospital participated in the ophthalmological assessment,” it said, adding relevant specialists had conducted other examinations.
“The clinical input arising from the ophthalmological assessment was taken into account alongside the findings of the investigations conducted at PIMS,” it said, noting that a medical board comprising PIMS doctors had consolidated the medical fitness report.
“In keeping with patient privacy and the directions of the Honorable Supreme Court of Pakistan, PIMS will not disclose the confidential clinical contents of the medical report,” it added.
The statement follows similar confirmations from both Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Khan’s sister, Dr. Uzma Khan. The medical examination came about after the Supreme Court, earlier this week, ordered Khan’s shifting to Shifa International for a medical check-up and comprehensive examination.
However, citing security concerns, the government took him to PIMS, where he was examined and declared “fit” before being taken back to Adiala Jail. The PTI has alleged this as contempt of court and filed a petition accordingly before the Supreme Court. The government, meanwhile, insists the intent of the ruling was adhered. It has also filed a review petition arguing the original judgment was not in accordance with law, as there is no provision for a prisoner to be shifted to a private, rather than a government, hospital.
