Pakistan’s Greatest Strength Lies in National Unity: Army chief

Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Wednesday asserted that Pakistan’s greatest strength is national unity, adding that together the nation will defeat the “nefarious” designs of its foes.

In an interaction session with participants of the National Security Workshop-27 at General Headquarters (GHQ), he noted the fluid regional environment, shaped by heightened geopolitical competition, cross-border terrorism, and hybrid threats. In a statement, the military’s media wing said he had underscored that despite complex challenges, including externally supported militancy and information-centric warfare, Pakistan’s armed forces, intelligence agencies, and law-enforcement institutions continue to demonstrate unwavering professionalism and resolve to safeguard national security.

Noting that Pakistan is a country of consequence and is destined to reach its rightful place in the comity of nations, Field Marshal Munir emphasized that the professionalism, resolve and commitment of the armed forces during Marka-e-Haq had enhanced the country’s global stature. Reiterating that territorial integrity, security and protection of every Pakistani citizen is paramount for the Pakistan Army, he vowed that these would not be compromised under any circumstances.

Concluding the session, the Army chief reaffirmed the Pakistan Army’s commitment to supporting federal and provincial governments, stating that coordinated national efforts and institutional synergy are vital for lasting peace, stability, and prosperity.

During their visit to GHQ, the participants of the workshop received comprehensive briefings on Pakistan’s regional and internal security landscape and prevailing national security environment. They were informed about ongoing national efforts against illegal activities, including the crackdown on smuggling, narcotics trafficking, and organized criminal networks that adversely impact security. Updates were also shared on enhanced border controls and the repatriation of illegal foreigners, aimed at maintaining internal order and protecting national interests.

NSW-27, according to the ISPR, is the flagship program of the National Defense University, bringing together parliamentarians, senior civil and military officers, and representatives from academia and civil society.
