Pakistan and the United States on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening counterterrorism cooperation, pledging to jointly confront the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other terrorist outfits threatening the safety of their citizens and regional stability.
The pledge was made during the fourth U.S.-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue in Washington, according to the Foreign Office. It said U.S. Coordinator for Counterterrorism Ambassador Gregory LoGerfo and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Special Secretary Ambassador Nabeel Munir had led the dialogue.
During the talks, Islamabad and Washington pledged united action against terrorist groups, including banned Daesh (ISIS-K), Al Qaeda (AQ), the TTP, and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its affiliates. “The two governments committed to ensuring their counterterrorism collaboration to keep both of their nations safe and secure, and as part of an enduring vision of regional peace, prosperity, and stability,” said the Foreign Office.
It said both sides had underscored shared interests in the counterterrorism partnership and the two countries’ determination to confront terrorism.
Delegations also exchanged views on the current threat environment, explored avenues to enhance collaboration, and discussed steps to strengthen border security and disrupt terrorist facilitation networks.
