Pakistan and Kuwait on Thursday signed a new defense agreement seeking to expand military cooperation, including training, capacity building and border management between the armed forces of both nations.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defense said Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Saleem Al-Sabah signed the Protocol Agreement 2026, enhancing the military cooperation framework established under the Defense Cooperation Agreement-2023.
During their meeting, read the statement, “matters of mutual interest were discussed, with particular focus on bilateral defense relations, security cooperation and further strengthening defense ties between Pakistan and Kuwait.”
Under the new agreement, per the ministry, the Armed Forces of Pakistan would extend assistance to the Armed Forces of Kuwait in diverse fields, including training, capacity building, border management and other mutually agreed areas of defense collaboration. “The agreement reflects the deep trust, mutual respect and shared strategic interests underpinning the longstanding defense relationship between the two brotherly countries.”
It said both sides reaffirmed their resolve to further strengthen this partnership in support of mutual security and regional peace and stability.
Also on Thursday, the visiting Kuwaiti delegation met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defense cooperation. Both sides, it said, reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing institutional ties and expanding mutually beneficial defense collaboration between the two brotherly countries.
“The Kuwaiti delegation appreciated the professionalism, operational excellence and valuable contributions of the Pakistan Armed Forces towards regional peace and stability,” it said. “The engagement reaffirmed the resolve of Pakistan and Kuwait to further consolidate their historic and brotherly relations into a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial defense partnership, contributing to regional security and stability,” it added.
