Pakistan and India on Wednesday swapped prisoners at the Wagah-Attari border post, as a ceasefire between the neighboring nations persists following tensions that had brought them to the brink of war.
Security sources said India had returned Punjab Rangers’s Mohammedullah to Pakistan. At the same time, Pakistan had returned to India its Border Security Force personnel Pranam Kumar Singh, who wa arrested after violating the international border on April 23.
The exchange was carried out at the Wagah-Attari post around 10:30 a.m.
Both sides said the swap was conducted peacefully and in accordance with established protocols.
Pakistan and India came to the brink of war last week after India resorted to unprovoked attacks under Operation Sindhoor on six cities of Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, martyring nearly 40 civilians, including women and children. In retaliation, Pakistan conducted Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, targeting several key Indian military sites.
As tensions mounted, Washington brokered a ceasefire, with the director generals of military operations of both countries making contact on May 12 and agreeing to maintain the détente.
