NDMA Forecasts Hot Weather to Persist in Punjab from June 13-18

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Thursday issued a weather advisory forecasting rain in some parts of the country and sustained hot and dry weather in others between June 13 and 18.

In its weather advisory, the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) said a weak western weather system is anticipated to enter the upper regions of the country from June 13 to 16, with a potential to influence weather conditions across multiple provinces.

“In Punjab, hot weather is expected to persist throughout the week. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, mostly hot conditions are predicted, but scattered rain and windstorms are likely in several districts, including Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Karak, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Mohmand, Nowshera, Malakand, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Hazara, Peshawar, Swabi, Swat, Waziristan, and adjoining areas,” it said.

Sindh and Balochistan are forecast to remain mainly hot and dry throughout the advisory period, it added. “In Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, hot weather will prevail, although areas like Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Shighar, Bagh, and Neelum Valley may receive isolated rainfall from June 13-16,” it added.

The NDMA also said that it is closely monitoring the situation through NEOC and maintaining coordination with provincial and district authorities to ensure timely preparedness and response.

In its advisory, the NDMA has urged the public, particularly those residing in heat-prone regions, to take necessary precautions during extreme temperatures. It has advised staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak heat hours (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), wearing light and breathable clothing, and checking on vulnerable individuals such as children, the elderly, and those with health conditions.

It also urged travelers and tourists planning to visit northern or hilly regions to remain updated with local weather conditions and follow safety advisories.

Separately, the Pakistan Meteorological Department predicted duststorms/rain-thundershower (with isolated hailstorm) in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan and Abbottabad from June 13-16, with occasional gaps.

It said similar conditions were expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, D.I. Khan, Waziristan, Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel from June 13-16 with occasional gaps. Duststorm/thunder-rain is also expected in all the districts of southern Punjab and upper Sindh during the period.
