The National Assembly on Friday passed nine bills, including The Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2024, and The Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
The amended civil servants bill requires any civil servant of BS-17 and above to declare their domestic and foreign assets, as well as those of their spouse and dependent children. The Lower House also passed a resolution to increase the maximum age for candidates appearing in the Central Superior Services examination from 30 to 35 years, as well as allowing candidates to attempt the exams up to five times.
The amended Income Tax bill is already in effect as it was introduced last year in the form of an ordinance. It aims to remove difficulties faced by the taxpayer in implementation of higher tax rates on income from federal government securities on the basis of ADR ratio.
Additionally, the Lower House passed The Anti-Dumping Duties Amendment Bill, 2025; Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Amendment Bill, 2024; The Extradition Amendment Bill, 2025; Pakistan Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2024; The Naturalization Amendment Bill, 2024; The Trade Organizations (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025; and The Islamabad Capital Territory Child Marriage Restraint Bill, 2024.
The Anti-Dumping Duties (Amendment) Bill, 2025 enables payment of duties to two Chinese-grant-funded projects in Gwadar—the Pak-China Friendship Hospital and the New Gwadar International Airport. It has been retrospective effect from 2021.
The Trade Organizations (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025 fixes two years’ tenure for office-bearers only for those elected on or after the enactment of the Trade Organizations (Amendment) Act, 2025.
