Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday called for unity among all political parties to tackle prevailing national challenges and internal stability.
In a meeting at Bilawal House in Karachi, the two leaders discussed the country’s political situation, law and order, and matters related to mutual interest. During the meeting, Naqvi apprised the PPP chairman about the decisions taken by the federal government for the country’s internal security and the maintenance of peace.
Bhutto-Zardari, per a statement, expressed satisfaction over the crucial steps adopted by the center. “Current challenges can only be met through unity and consensus,” he said, with the interior minister emphasizing the need for unity to ensure Pakistan’s internal stability.
The meeting followed last week’s meeting between leaders of the PPP and PMLN, during which the two parties agreed to resolve misunderstandings and political differences through consultation and mutual respect. Previously, the two parties lashed out at each other, trading blame over the performance of their respective governments in Sindh and Punjab.
The escalating war of words led to the PPP staging walkouts from the Senate and the National Assembly, with leaders warning they could reconsider supporting the PMLN at the center, where it is required for the ruling coalition. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari sought to cool tempers, with the situation appearing to reach resolution last week.
