The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Monday announced the minimum profit rate requirement shall only be applicable on deposits of individuals maintaining a monthly average balance of up to Rs. 10 million to encourage investment in government securities.
In a circular, the central bank noted it had launched the digital platform, InvestPak, to facilitate retail and corporate investors. Through the app, he said, all investors could directly invest their savings in government securities in a convenient, efficient and secured way.
“As the institutional and sophisticated investors can now conveniently invest in government securities through ‘InvestPak’ and earn better returns, it has been decided that the minimum profit rate requirement … shall only be applicable on the deposits of natural persons (individuals) maintaining monthly average balance of up to Rs. 10 million,” it said.
The SBP said the two measures—InvestPak and the minimum profit requirements—aimed to diversify the investor base of government securities while ensuring competitive returns for investors. “The ‘InvestPak’ platform is accessible to both institutional and retail investors for directly investing their savings digitally in government securities,” it added.
The central bank said the measure would come into effect from Aug. 1, 2026.
