The Establishment Division on Friday announced that Major General Faisal Naseer, formerly the Director General of Counter Intelligence for the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), has been appointed the national coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA).
In its notification, the Establishment Division said the appointment was on the approval of the federal government. It said he would serve as the national coordinator of NACTA under Section 9(1) of the NACTA Act, 2013, on a secondment basis.
The appointment is for a period of three years and is effective immediately, with standard terms and conditions and until further orders.
Established in 2008 within the Ministry of Interior, NACTA is tasked with developing action plans against terrorism and extremism and reports to the federal government about the implementation of these plans. It also coordinates and prepares comprehensive national counter-terrorism and counter-extremism strategies.
