The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Office on Sunday rejected reports claiming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Patron-in-Chief Imran Khan had directed Ali Amin Gandapur to resign if he cannot ensure peace in his province.
In a statement, a spokesperson said the provincial government’s allegiance to Khan was unwavering. “Whenever Imran Khan desires, Chief Minister Gandapur will step down,” he said, adding there was no authoritative confirmation of Khan issuing a directive for resignation.
Earlier, various media outlets had reported that Khan had urged Gandapur to resign over perceived failures in governance and law and order during court proceedings at Adiala Jail.
The spokesperson stressed that the provincial administration represented Khan’s political vision and was guided by his trust in the political leadership. He said Gandapur had publicly maintained that his chief ministerial position was “a trust bestowed by Imran Khan.”
Similarly, in a statement, Gandapur also rejected the reports, adding his position was solely a result of the PTI founder’s confidence in his abilities.
According to the spokesperson, the chief minister is launching regional tribal jirgas to combat terrorism and restore stability in the province. These jirgas, he claimed, would serve to improve law and order through a community-led strategy.
