Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Monday thanked the government and people of Pakistan for their ongoing support to, and solidarity with, the people and government of Iran.
In a posting on X, Araghchi extended his “heartfelt gratitude” to the government and people of Pakistan “for their full-throated expression of solidarity and support with the people and government” of Iran during the ongoing conflict triggered by joint U.S.-Israeli strikes.
Since the U.S. and Israeli initiated the conflict on Feb. 28, they have assassinated Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and struck civilian and military infrastructure alike. In one of the most harrowing incidents, suspected U.S. airstrikes hit a school, killing over 160 people, most of them children.
Since the launch of the conflict, Pakistan has encouraged restraint, calling on both sides to work toward a peaceful resolution for regional stability. In an address to Parliament, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said he had urged Iran to avoid attacks on Saudi Arabia, emphasizing that under a mutual defense pact, any attack on the kingdom would be deemed an attack on Pakistan.
In a follow-up post on X, Araghchi stressed that Iran would continue defending its interests. “The Islamic Republic of Iran stands with steadfastness and perseverance in defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, with complete reliance on Allah Almighty,” he added.
