Imran Khan Predicts Ouster of Incumbent Government in Two Months

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Thursday predicted the incumbent government led by the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) will be ousted after two more months, alleging they were not aware of the “real” issues facing the country.

“The government is plunging into quagmire, however they are fools and unable to understand,” he claimed during an informal conversation with journalists on the sidelines of proceedings into the £190 million case at Adiala Jail, where he is incarcerated. “I am predicting this from prison that this government has only two months,” he reiterated, maintaining he had time to wait for dialogue but the government did not.

During his conversation, Khan also reiterated that he would only tender an apology for the May 9 riots if PTI workers or leaders were found guilty of causing the unrest. “Am I insane to ask our people to attack the Army?” he questioned, maintaining his supporters had protested “peacefully” and were wrongly declared “terrorists.” Stressing his party wants justice for the May 9 riots, he said he had only proposed dialogue with the establishment in the national interest.

“I will not strike any deal no matter how many cases they register against us,” he claimed, adding he had not yet received any positive response on his offer for talks.

To a question, the PTI founder said he would soon present a witness in the £190 million case, but could not disclose their name out of concern for their safety. To another question on whether his party would be amenable to fresh elections under the incumbent government, he replied in the negative. Accusing Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja of organizing “fraud elections,” he said the PTI would only accept fresh polls under a new CEC and an “impartial” interim government.
