Imran Khan Defers Protest for Two Weeks over Middle East Conflict

Incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Patron-in-Chief Imran Khan on Tuesday deferred a planned nationwide protest movement for two weeks, citing the restive situation developing in light of the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, according to his sister Noreen Niazi.

Addressing journalists outside Adiala Jail after meeting Khan alongside her sister, Uzma, Noreen said Khan had decided to delay the protest movement due to the prevailing global situation. Khan’s third sister, Aleema, was denied permission to meet Khan.

According to Noreen, her brother believes Pakistan needs national unity during such challenging times. “Imran Khan is aware of global developments and has stressed the importance of national cohesion,” she added. Uzma, meanwhile, said Khan’s stance on international issues, including Israel, was already well known.

Incarcerated since August 2023, Khan last month announced he would “personally” lead a protest movement against the incumbent government after Eidul Azha from behind bars. The party has claimed the protest would be different from previous demonstrations, with rallies and protests in cities nationwide rather than converging on Islamabad.
