Former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday clarified the remarks of his sister, Aleema, regarding “give and take” with the security establishment, maintaining he is only willing to talk with the establishment for the sake of the country.
Earlier this week, Aleema had proposed a “give and take formula” to the establishment for the release of her brother. Alleging that “unseen forces” were pressuring judges and influencing legal proceedings, she claimed Khan was ready to negotiate and urged the establishment to detail its demands. She had further claimed Khan was ready to accept any “reasonable” demands.
After Aleema’s remarks triggered derision from opponents of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), party Senator Ali Zafar met the former prime minister during a hearing of the May 9 case at Adiala Jail. Speaking with media after the meeting, he said the PTI chief had said Aleema’s words were “misinterpreted,” adding he would never go for any “give and take” formula.
“Khan sahab said that he was willing to talk, but only in the best interest of the country and would not demand any gain or relaxation for himself,” he claimed, adding if Khan desired personal benefit he could have availed it already.
According to Zafar, Khan had also reiterated his demand for swift justice in all legal cases against him and other PTI members. He said the PTI founder had accused authorities of deliberately delaying court proceedings. He said the former prime minister had reiterated that the party and its leadership must prepare for another nationwide protest movement, adding details of the same would be finalized in a week.
