Government to Expedite Operationalization of Gwadar Port

The federal cabinet on Thursday formed a 13-member cabinet committee to finalize the Gwadar Port Operationalization Plan with an aim to expediting its functioning.

In a notification, the Cabinet Division said Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal would head the committee. It said the committee would review several issues hindering the port’s operationalization, adding it would review the lack of internal connectivity, insufficient financial incentives, and the fragile security situation and propose recommendations.

The committee would finalize the plan with actionable steps to resolve the issues, it added.

According to the notification, the committee would organize an international conference in Islamabad to raise awareness about Gwadar Port and develop a comprehensive marketing strategy for Gwadar Port. The committee will monitor the implementation of the plan to activate Gwadar Port.

Additionally, the committee will formulate a strategy to accelerate diplomatic outreach to attract economic and trade interests of Central Asian republics and other countries in Gwadar Port.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs will provide secretarial support to the committee, which has been directed to submit its report to the cabinet within 30 days.
