Government, IMF to Commence Talks on Third Review Next Week: Aurangzeb

A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reached Karachi to begin discussions on the third review of Pakistan’s ongoing Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced on Wednesday, adding formal talks will commence next week.

Speaking with media in Islamabad, the minister said the third economic review would include a performance review. He said he believed the country was in a good position regarding tax collection, adding the issue of tax revenue would be discussed with the IMF delegation.

According to Aurangzeb, there are no issues regarding the rollover of deposits from the United Arab Emirates, emphasizing that Islamabad is in regular contact with the Gulf state in this regard.

Local media reported the IMF delegation had already met officials of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in Karachi. Reportedly, the SBP would brief the IMF team on anti-money laundering measures and anti-terror financing efforts.

The IMF delegation’s visit comes several months after the global lender released a tranche of $1.2 billion to Pakistan under the EFF program and the climate-focused Resilience and Sustainability Facility. The funds were deposited with the SBP in December and were released after a series of review meetings in Islamabad during September and October 2025.
