The federal government on Friday announced Aug. 26 (Wednesday) as a public holiday to mark the occasion of 12th Rabiul Awal, Eid Milad un Nabi (Peace Be Upon Him).
In a notification, the Cabinet Division said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had approved Aug. 26 as a public holiday nationwide. Both the Sindh and Punjab governments have similarly announced a public holiday in the provinces for Aug. 26.
The decision follows the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee last week announcing it had not sighted the Rabiul Awal moon, so Eid Milad un Nabi would fall on the coming Wednesday.
Muslims globally mark the birth of Islam’s Prophet, Eid Milad un Nabi, on the 12th of Rabi ul Awal. The day is marked with prayers, charity, and a renewed commitment to follow the teachings of Islam’s Prophet.
