Information Minister Attaullah Tarar on Sunday said India’s narrative about the Pahalgam attack had been proven false and rejected, vindicating Pakistan’s stance a year after the incident.
Addressing a gathering marking its anniversary, Tarar said the past year’s developments had only reinforced Pakistan’s position and raised questions over India’s claims. Shortly after the attack last year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had addressed the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, criticizing India’s handling of the situation and offering cooperation in a neutral investigation.
Delhi did not acknowledge the offer, instead launching an unprovoked attack on Pakistan, killing several civilians and security personnel. In its subsequent retaliation, Pakistan downed at least seven Indian fighter jets, with the conflict ending after the United States brokered a ceasefire on May 10.
In his address, the information minister noted the prime minister’s April 26, 2025 address had clearly articulated Pakistan’s stance, rejected baseless allegations, and called for an end to the blame game associated with such events.
Earlier, he recalled, a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) on April 24, 2025 had also given a comprehensive response to the allegations. He reiterated that the prime minister had termed the Pahalgam incident a “tragedy” and expressed sympathy with the victims, while conveying Pakistan’s concern and sorrow at the international level.
“The prime minister made it clear that the recurring pattern of baseless accusations under the cover of such incidents must stop,” he said, noting Pakistan had consistently condemned terrorism and remained engaged in combating the menace. India, he said, had failed to adopt a similarly clear stance. This behavior, he claimed, had cemented before the global community the distinction between a country fighting terrorism and one promoting it.
“Pakistan had maintained a clear and consistent policy against terrorism, while continuing efforts to promote peace and stability in the region … Truth prevails, and Pakistan’s stance has been vindicated at the global level,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the capabilities of the armed forces under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir, Tarar said they were capable of responding effectively to any misadventure. He concluded his address by crediting Sharif’s address at Kakul for laying the foundation for a sustained diplomatic and strategic narrative that had contributed to enhancing Pakistan’s standing internationally, including among overseas Pakistanis.
