FBR to Acquire 1,010 New Vehicles

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a letter of intent to acquire 1,010 Honda City vehicles during the first five months of 2025.

According to the letter of intent, the FBR would pay Honda Atlas Cars Rs. 3 billion upfront. This covers the full payment for 500 units and partial payment of balance amount for the remaining 510 units. The balance payment would be made upon completion of delivery of the first 500 vehicles.

The acquisition would be executed in two phases. The first phase covers January-March, with 75 vehicles to be delivered in January; 200 in February; and 225 in March. The second phase covers April-May, with 250 vehicles to be delivered in April and the remaining 260 in May. According to the letter, the vehicles would include several add-ons, including a navigation system with a reverse camera, high-grade interiors, free periodic maintenance for up to 20,000km or 12 months and a 4-year extended warranty.

The manufacturer is also directed to install tracker systems with one-year service charges.

An official of the FBR said the acquisition was a significant part of the organization’s ongoing transformation plan to enhance operational efficiency. He claimed the vehicles would boost the efficiency of field officers.

Last year, the federal government approved a Rs. 32.5 billion package to improve the efficiency of FBR. The allocated amount included Rs. 5.6 billion for new vehicles; around Rs. 19.7 billion for anti-smuggling initiatives; Rs. 2.5 billion for up to four extra salaries; and Rs. 3.4 billion for enhancing the FBR’s operational capacity.
