FBR Misses March Tax Collection Target by Over Rs. 100bn

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has missed its tax revenue collection target for March 2025 by over Rs. 100 billion.

The FBR had a tax collection target of Rs. 1,220 billion for the month of March. As of March 27, it was only able to collect Rs. 1,100, leaving a shortfall of roughly Rs. 120 billion.

Overall, in the first nine months of the ongoing fiscal year (July 2024-March 2025), the FBR has collected Rs. 8,444 billion against the target of Rs. 9,167 billion, leaving a total shortfall of Rs. 723 billion. The FBR’s full collection target has been revised down from Rs. 12,913 billion to Rs. 12,334 billion, which appears increasingly unlikely with just three months remaining in fiscal year 2024-25.

In an attempt to reduce the shortfall, the government has instructed the FBR to open its field offices on March 29, the last working day of the month, for collection of tax revenue. Authorities are hoping to collect Rs. 17-20 billion revenue before March 31.
