The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Wednesday notified an extension in the deadline for filing income tax returns for the 2025 tax year until Oct. 31, citing requests from various trade bodies and tax bar associations.
In a notification, the tax body said the extension was being notified in exercise of powers conferred under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
This is the second extension for the income tax filing deadline. Initially, the FBR had extended the Sept. 30 deadline until Oct. 15, citing requests from various trade bodies, taxpayers, and tax bar associations.
In the last fiscal year, the tax body had a shortfall of Rs. 1.2 trillion, prompting dissatisfaction from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Ultimately, the FBR collected Rs. 11.74 trillion after two downward revisions, with the tax body attributing the gap to unrealized recoveries worth Rs. 250 billion due to pending court cases.
