Explosion Targets Police Vehicle in Mastung

At least three Balochistan Constabulary personnel were martyred and around 16 others injured in a blast targeting a police vehicle in Balochistan’s Mastung area on Tuesday.

The explosion occurred while the vehicle was passing through the Shamsabad area. Speaking to media after the blast, a spokesperson for the provincial government said an emergency had been imposed at the Bolan Medical Complex Hospital and the Civil Hospital, adding the injured—two of whom are in critical condition—were shifted to Quetta.

The targeted vehicle was transporting security personnel from Kalat. Spokesperson Shahid Rind said it was an improvised explosive device, adding Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti had directed Health Minister Bakht Kakar to oversee the treatment of the injured. “The Balochistan government will stand by the martyrs,” he vowed.

Condemning the incident, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed solidarity with the victims and their families, reaffirming the government’s resolve to defeat the “enemies of humanity.” He also reiterated a vow to continue the war against terrorists until their complete eradication.

Pakistan is currently in the midst of a terror resurgence, particularly in Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, with authorities blaming militants based in neighboring Afghanistan. According to the Center for Research and Security Studies, the two provinces accounted for 98% of all fatalities in the first quarter of 2025, with 897 violence-linked fatalities and 542 injuries among civilians, security personnel and outlaws. The casualties, it said, were caused by 354 incidents of violence, including terror attacks and counter-terror operations.
