Ensuring Safety for Chinese Nationals in Pakistan Top Priority: Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said the government is working to create a safe and business-friendly environment for the Chinese community in Pakistan.

“The confidence of Chinese companies in the Pakistani economy is extremely important for our economic future,” he said while chairing a meeting on security arrangements for Chinese citizens in Pakistan. Noting the multiple measures taken to enhance the security of Chinese nationals nationwide, he said Safe City projects were a clear example of this growing capability. These projects are developed in line with international standards nationwide, he added.

“China is our friendly country,” said Sharif, stressing the protection of Chinese brothers was the government’s top priority. Describing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a highly important joint project between the two countries, he said its second phase was focused on business-to-business cooperation. In this scenario, he stressed, ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan had become even more crucial.

The prime minister directed relevant authorities to act on a priority basis to facilitate the arrival and departure of Chinese citizens at all airports nationwide.

During the meeting, Sharif was briefed on the progress of special security arrangements for Chinese nationals across Pakistan. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi informed him of existing security measures, noting special security protocols had been enforced in view of potential terror threats.

The briefing noted that the federal government and all provinces were working in close coordination on this matter and Chinese nationals were being provided security escort services for travel. It was further noted that all new housing projects would be equipped with surveillance cameras at Safe City standards.
