Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, along with a high-powered delegation, has reached New York to commence discussions aimed at countering India’s narrative regarding last month’s conflict.
The delegation accompanying the former foreign minister comprises Hina Rabbani Khar, Musadik Malik, Khurram Dastgir-Khan, Senator Sherry Rehman, Bushra Anjum Butt, Faisal Sabzwari, Tehmina Janjua, and Jalil Abbas Jilani. It would meet representatives of various foreign states and multilateral fora, with an aim to present Pakistan’s perspective on last month’s military confrontation with India.
In New York, the delegation will meet United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres and U.N. General Assembly President Philemon Yang. They would also brief members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and engage with the U.N. Correspondents Association.
After concluding their engagements in New York, the delegation will proceed to Washington, D.C., where they plan to meet various U.S. officials, including members of Congress and representatives from think-tanks, to discuss bilateral relations and regional security concerns.
Announced after the conflict with India, the delegation is part of a diplomatic initiative aimed at underscoring Islamabad’s commitment to peaceful resolution and proactive engagement with international stakeholders. Following its U.S. tour, the delegation would proceed to various European capitals to continue efforts to articulate Pakistan’s position on the regional security situation.
Similar to Pakistan’s initiative, an Indian delegation led by Congress lawmaker Shashi Tharoor is also due in Washington this week. He has earlier led delegations to Panama and Colombia.
