Two more people lost their lives due to ongoing monsoon rains over the past 24 hours, with the nationwide death toll climbing to 281, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The latest deaths occurred in Sindh, where two children died due to drowning. Overall, since the rains started on June 26, 281 people have died and 676 injured. Punjab has reported the majority of the deaths and injuries, 151 and 535, respectively. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 64 people have died, while 80 are injured, while in Sindh 27 people have died and 40 injured. In Balochistan, 20 people have died and four are injured.
Gilgit-Baltistan has reported nine deaths and four injuries, while Pakistan-administered Kashmir has recorded two deaths and 10 injuries. Federal capital Islamabad has reported eight deaths and three injuries.
Of the casualties, 155 have died due to house collapses; 49 drowning; 44 flash floods; 14 electrocution; 13 lightning strikes; and six due to landslides.
The NDMA has also recorded extensive property damage. According to the disaster management authority, 1,569 houses have been damaged nationwide, while 374 livestock have perished. Authorities have thus far conducted 149 rescue operations, including 128 in Punjab, and have distributed 8,467 relief items and established 27 relief and medical camps.
