The British Council on Thursday announced it is cancelling afternoon exams scheduled across all Lahore venues for the safety and security of candidates.
“Due to the developing situation in Lahore, British Council has agreed with the relevant boards to cancel GCE, IGCSE, IELTS and University of London exams scheduled for today, Thursday May 8, 2025, for the P.M. session across all Lahore venues,” it said in a brief statement posted on its official social media accounts.
“This decision has been made to prioritize the safety and security of candidates,” it said and urged candidates to check the British Council official pages for the latest updates.
Earlier, military spokesman Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry had confirmed that a Harop Indian drone had been downed in Lahore, adding four soldiers were injured. He said the drone incursions were ongoing, stressing the armed forces were responding. Subsequently, various parts of Lahore have reported hearing sounds of explosions, though it remains unclear if these are a result of military drills or anti-aircraft retaliation.
