Balochistan National Party (BNP) President Sardar Akhtar Mengal on Tuesday announced his resignation from the National Assembly, maintaining he has failed to serve his constituents in Parliament.
Announcing his decision outside the National Assembly, he said it was a “surprise” for everyone because he had not shared it prior to the press interaction. “I was unable to serve my people,” said the MNA, who had won the 2024 general elections for NA-269.
Lamenting the state of affairs in Balochistan, he said his resignation was him expressing no-confidence in the Army, the judiciary, the prime minister and the president. “Everyone is responsible for the situation in Balochistan,” he alleged, adding it was the responsibility of state whether Punjabis, Baloch or Sindhis were murdered in the province.
To questions, he said he felt compelled to announce his resignation outside Parliament as he was not permitted to speak on the floor of the House. He said he would now return to his people. He further claimed that people who used to seek his input for Balochistan were no longer doing so and he did not how the situation could be resolved in this scenario. “No one is interested in resolving the situation in Balochistan,” he claimed.
“I want to apologize to all the people who voted for me,” he said, regretting he was unable to meet their aspirations.
