Both the Sindh and Punjab governments have reduced Eidul Azha holidays from four days to three, declaring May 26-29 as public holidays in line with the schedule issued by the federal government.
While Punjab quietly reduced its holidays, declaring its initial notification “fake,” Sindh issued a corrigendum, saying May 29 would be observed as “work from home.” It said the holidays would apply to all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils under the administrative control of the Sindh government.
All “essential services” and departments or offices engaged in preparation of the budget for the financial year 2026-27 would remain exempted, it added.
The revised notification, issued on Saturday, followed an earlier order issued on Friday that had declared holidays from May 26-29.
Eidul Azha falls on May 27 this year, with the government schedule granting holidays on the first and second days, but requiring operations to resume on the third day. However, with the “work from home” policy, which has not been adopted by the private sector, government offices would effectively remain shuttered from May 26-May 31.
