A Rawalpindi Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday ordered the confiscation of the computerized national identity card (CNIC) and passport of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema, over her failure to appear in court despite repeated summons.
ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah also directed the relevant authorities to freeze Aleema’s bank accounts as she continued to ignore summons for a case related to FIRs registered against her in connection with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Islamabad protest from last November.
Earlier this week, the same court had issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema for the fourth time, as she told media she would not appear in court unless the media was indicted alongside her for conveying her words to the public.
During Friday’s hearing, the ATC also ordered the confiscation of property belonging to Aleema’s guarantor, Umar Sharif. Judge Shah observed that Aleema was fairly active publicly but was continuing to evade court proceedings.
The hearing was subsequently adjourned until Oct. 27 (Monday).
The case pertains to the PTI’s protest from last November when party workers entered Islamabad in defiance of a ban on public gatherings, clashing with law enforcement agencies near D-Chowk. Aleema is accused of inciting unrest by directing PTI supporters to gather at D-Chowk on her brother’s instructions.
