Arrest Warrant Issued for Bushra Imran in New Toshakhana Case

A special court at Adiala Jail on Thursday issued a bailable arrest warrant for Bushra Imran, the wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, in the new Toshakhana case after she failed to appear in court for 10 consecutive hearings.

Both Khan and his wife were arrested in the case on July 13. Bushra subsequently secured bail from the Islamabad High Court, allowing her to go free. Khan was also granted bail, but remains incarcerated as he is under arrest in several other cases.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) filed the new Toshakhana case, commonly known as the Toshakhana-II case. It accuses the couple of retaining an expensive Bulgari jewelry set gifted by a foreign leader after paying significantly less than its market value, causing losses to the exchequer.

Both Bushra and Khan were due to be indicted on Oct. 2, but the process was deferred after the defense counsel sought more time. Since her bail, Bushra has skipped multiple hearings, further delaying the case proceedings.

In addition to the warrant for Bushra, the court has served a notice to her guarantor, questioning why their surety bonds should not be forfeited. The court then adjourned the hearing until Dec. 9.
