Chief of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir on Monday met with a visiting U.S. delegation, sharing Pakistan’s perspective on the security dynamics that shaped the Afghan conflict and highlighting the challenges faced by Pakistan during the prolonged conflict in the neighboring nation, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
In a statement, the military’s media wing said the field marshal had shared his views during a meeting with a delegation of the U.S. Afghanistan War Commission, led by co-chairs Shamila N. Chaudhary and Dr. Colin F. Jackson, at the General Headquarters, Rawalpindi. The delegation is undertaking a review of the United States’ 20-year engagement in Afghanistan.
The CDF underscored the importance of incorporating the regional perspective and Islamabad’s experience in assessing the strategic, diplomatic and operational dimensions of the conflict.
“Discussions covered matters of mutual interest including Pakistan’s support, the regional security environment and developments in Afghanistan, with focus on perspectives relevant to the commission’s work,” read the statement.
It said the visitors had acknowledged Pakistan’s longstanding role and sacrifices during the conflict in Afghanistan and appreciated its continued contribution to regional peace and stability.
Pakistan has experienced resurgent terrorism since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in August 2021. It has repeatedly called on Kabul to prevent the use of its soil for terrorism against Pakistan, to no avail.
