The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) on Tuesday said it recorded total cement dispatches of 3.846 million tons in August against 3.421 million tons in the same month a year prior, an increase of 12.45%.
However, the dispatches posted a decline of 3.9% month-to-month, as the industry sold 3.997 million tons in July.
During August, local cement dispatches stood at 3.097 million tons in August against 2.807 million tons a year prior, an increase of 10.33%. Export dispatches similarly rose by 22.13% to 749,723 tons, up from 613,857 tons.
Regional breakup
In August, North based cement mills dispatched 2.795 million tons cement, an increase of 8.1% against the 2.585 million tons dispatched in August 2024. Of this, 2.586 million were dispatched to domestic markets, an 8.64% increase over the 2.38 million dispatched in the same month last year, while exports increased by 1.84% from 204,901 tons in August 2024 to 208,669 tons in August 2025.
South-based mills, meanwhile, dispatched 1.05 million tons of cement in August 2025, a 25.93% hike over the 0.835 million tons of the same month last year. Of this, they dispatched 510,758 tons in local markets, 19.81% more than the 426,289 tons dispatched in August 2024. Exports from South-based mills increased by 32.3% to 541,054 tons in August 2025, against 408,956 tons in August 2024.
Fiscal year
During the first two months of the ongoing fiscal year, total cement dispatches reached 7.847 million tons, 20.88% higher than the 6.492 million tons dispatched during the corresponding period of the last fiscal year. Domestic dispatches during this period were 6.090 million tons against the 5.331 million tons of last year, an increase of 14.25%.
Export dispatches increased by 51.29%, going from 1.161 million tons in July-August 2024 to 1.757 million tons in the same period this year.
North based mills dispatched 5.004 million tons of cement domestically during July-August 2025, 10.36% higher than the 4.535 million tons dispatched during July-August 2024. Exports from North increased by 44.99% to 440,654 tons during July-August 2025, against 303,921 tons in the same period of last year. Total dispatches by North based mills increased by 12.53% to 5.445 million tons during July-August 2025. In July-August 2024, they reached 4.839 million tons.
Domestic dispatches by South based mills during July-August 2025 were 1.086 million tons, 36.46% higher than the 0.796 million tons dispatched during the same period last fiscal year. Exports from the South also showed an increase of 53.53% to 1.316 million tons this year compared to 0.857 million tons last year. Total dispatches by South based mills increased by 45.31% to 2.402 million tons during the first two months of the current financial year, against 1.653 million tons last year.
A spokesman of APCMA noted the country is experiencing tough times due to excessive rains and floods and urged the government to reduce taxes on cement to bring down the cost of rehabilitation of affected areas.
