Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, on Sunday reiterated a call for a large gathering of supporters outside Adiala Jail this Tuesday (June 16) to build “necessary pressure” for her brother’s treatment at a private hospital in Islamabad.
“PTI leadership has requested opposition leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai that if there is a timeframe on the gathering outside Adiala jail on Tuesday, they can mobilize 10,000 people,” she wrote on X, adding the family had welcomed this proposal and accepted the request.
In this regard, she said, the PTI and its supporters would gather outside Adiala Jail from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. “A strong gathering of 10,000 people outside Adiala should create the necessary pressure to end Imran Khan’s prolonged isolation and ensure that his eye condition is properly examined and treated at Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, in the presence of his family and personal physician,” she claimed.
“This is a humanitarian and legal demand. The basic rights of a former prime minister and political prisoner must be respected,” she added.
This isn’t the first time Aleema has urged the PTI to gather in large numbers to build pressure on the government to restore family meetings with Khan, suspended for several months over concerns of the party politicizing discussions. She had previously urged the PTI to gather at least 1,000 people outside Adiala but the party has thus far failed to gather those numbers.
A day earlier, Aleema had declared June the “only window available” to build pressure required to end Khan’s isolation and ensure his transfer to hospital for proper medical treatment.
Meanwhile, in a statement on X, PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan said he had been informed that the PTI founder was taken to PIMS in Islamabad last night (Sunday) for further treatment of his eye condition before being shifted back to Adiala Jail. “We strongly reiterate our demand of shifting him to hospital for treat. We demand meeting with family immediately,” he added.
