Akhtar Mengal Announces Long March to Quetta

Balochistan National Party (Mengal) chief Akhtar Mengal on Tuesday announced he will lead a long march from Wadh to Quetta on March 28 (Friday) to protest the detention of leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC).

In a series of posts on X, Mengal said the march is “against the arrest of our daughters and disrespect of our mothers and sisters.” He invited the Baloch community, as well as any other interested parties, to participate in large numbers.

“It is not only the matter of our daughters’ arrest but it is a question of our national dignity, our honor and our existence,” he said. “We will not sit silent until our daughters, sisters and mothers are safe,” he added.

Stressing that this demonstration was peaceful, he vowed it would continue until justice was assured. “Our march from Quetta to Wadh is not a journey of steps but a travel of conscience. The time has come that we get united and raise a single voice,” he added.

In a post on X, National Democratic Movement leader Mohsin Dawar backed Mengal’s call. “With you Sardar sahib,” he wrote. “National Democratic Movement fully supports the long march called by the Balochistan National Party and requests people from all walks of life to participate in this historic long march,” he added.

Last week, police arrested BYC chief organizer Mahrang Baloch following clashes between the group and police. Earlier this week, BYC leader Sammi Baloch was similarly arrested while protesting for the release of Mahrang.
